Deborah Ann Chapleau Bonacci
1998-06-26
Per John Bonacci's (our classmate and Debbie's husband) E-mail to me in October 2002, Debbie passed away June 26th,1998 at the young age of 47. He wrote, "Deb and I were together for over thirty years. She was my high school sweetheart and managed to persuade me that she was the one in 1974. As you may or may not know, Deb graduated from WCSC in 1972 with a B.S. in Speech and Theatre with a minor in English. Subsequently, she became associated with the deaf world and took courses at NYU and Gallaudet University, changing gears and professions. Ultimately, she became associated with the State of Ct. Commission for the Deaf and Hearing Impaired, hence becoming nationally certified, where she spent the next twenty five years of her life. She worked diligently at her profession and gained a great sense of meaningfulness and fulfillment from it. She was a pioneer, in the integration of the deaf student into a hearing environment. Additionally, she enjoyed interpreting theatrical performances, whether it be "Shakespeare", at the Yale Rep. or summer shows at the Candlewood Theatre where she interpreted for years. Together we had a daughter Annie, who is presently an English Ed. major in her third year at WCSU. She's following in her Mom`s shoes."
